Coronation of Charles III: why Harry is more lonely than ever

To paraphrase Shakespeare, there is something truly rotten about the Kingdom of Windsor. On this coronation day, when the Kingdom silences its differences to celebrate the coming of its king, the family will bare its wounds in broad daylight. At least they kept up appearances: Harry is coming, but alone, without his wife Meghan. She lives with her two children, Archie and Lilibet, at their luxurious California estate in Montecito, near Los Angeles.

The decision was made on April 12, after several months of waiting and, as one might guess, tense negotiations. For the Sussexes, remaining silent allowed them to maintain attention (on themselves) and tension (with the Palace). But none of the royal experts doubted the outcome: skipping the ceremony was difficult to imagine even for the rebellious prince. “That’s the right decision. Harry himself said it was the most important day of his father’s life,” said Camilla Tominey, a journalist for the Daily Telegraph and one of the most astute experts on the royal family.
