The president Andrés Manuel López Obrador This Thursday he asked politicians from U.S stop using Mexico as a “piñata” after the failure of the immigration plan in the US Senate that allowed the closure of the border and the expulsion of more migrants to Mexican territory.

“Yesterday there was a vote in the United States Congress and a proposal presented by President (Joe) Biden on immigration issues was rejected because everything is now electoral politics and they want to use, something that we will not allow, the issue of immigration, like other issues, to gain an advantage in the electoral field.”, declared.

““Mexico is no one’s piñata, so let’s be careful”, the Mexican president settled into his morning conference.

López Obrador referred to the failure, on Wednesday, of the border security bill in the United States Senate, where It did not obtain the 60 votes necessary to go to debate, with 50 votes against and 49 in favor.

The proposal considered expelling asylum seekers to Mexico and closing the common border if the limit of 5,000 irregular crossings in a day was exceeded, but Republicans stopped supporting him because the former president donald trump (2017-2021) spoke out against it because he hopes to promote the issue in his presidential campaign.
