Maduro says the UN Human Rights office was dedicated to “espionage” in Venezuela

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Madurosaid this Monday that the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Caracaswhose activities were suspended last Thursday by order of the Executive, was dedicated to espionage and conspiracy.

He assured that his Government reported to the UN on at least 10 occasions these alleged irregularities, among which he mentioned that employees of the OHCHRthey spent time searching“files and”applying judicial colonialism”.

In addition to suspending the activities of this office, created since September 2019, the Venezuelan Government indicated that it will carry out a “comprehensive review of cooperation terms” agreed with this organization for the next 30 days and ordered the expulsion of 13 employees who worked in Caracas.
