Carlos III is grateful for the thousands of letters and messages he has received since he was diagnosed with cancer

The British king, Charles IIIthanked on video the thousands of letters, cards and messages sent by citizens around the world after he reported his cancer diagnosis on February 5.

Images released by Buckingham Palace show the smiling king reviewing some of the 7,000 messages of support received.

In the rooms of the so-called Belgian Suite at Buckingham, Charles looks especially amused by a card showing an image of a dog with an Elizabethan collar (which is put on after some medical treatment) that says to the monarch: “At least you don’t have to wear cones…”

Other letters contain advice from cancer patients, such as the one that recommends: “Chin up, chest out, stay positive and don’t let it get you down.”

The images correspond to last Wednesday, when the king received the prime minister for the first time since starting treatment for an unspecified cancer, Rishi Sunak, in person.

At the start of the meeting, the monarch acknowledged to Sunak that many of the messages he received had brought him “to tears”.

Since receiving the diagnosis, after undergoing a standard procedure to treat an enlarged prostate, Charles III has remained at his country residence in Sandringham (east of England), and only travels to London when it is his turn to undergo to surgical treatment.

The royal house reported that the sovereign’s public activities have been suspended indefinitely, although he continues to carry out his office work and weekly meetings with the head of Government.
