Lukashenko announces he will run for re-election in Belarus in 2025

The Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenkomain ally of Russia and in power since 1994, announced this Sunday that he will run for new re-election in 2025.

The leader of the Belarusian opposition in exile, Svetlana Tikhanovskaiapreviously called for a boycott of the parliamentary elections, in which, according to the authorities, at 9:00 am local time, 43.64% of those registered had already voted.

Regarding the recognition of these elections, Lukashenko said that Belarus does not need Western approval.
