Ecuador: another suspect involved in the murder of 5 of the 11 kidnapped people is arrested

Police reported this Saturday the arrest of a second man, allegedly involved in the kidnapping of eleven people and the murder of five of them on Friday, in the coastal province of Manabí, located in the west of Ecuador.

The police institution, which on Saturday morning had reported the arrest of a first person, added Friday in Ayampe to its social network account.

In the first intervention, in which they detained a person, police forces found six shotguns, two pistols, 51 magazines, cartridges, explosive material and other evidence associated with the case.

Police attached videos and photographs of the arrest in the case, which investigates the murder of two women and three men kidnapped in the Ayampe area.

According to the Police, five minors who were also kidnapped are in good condition along with their families.

The local press highlights that all those kidnapped in a hotel – on the first of three days off for Easter – were family members, but the Police made no reference to this.

One of the kidnapped people who managed to escape warned about the case.

The man reported that at the hotel where they were staying “a group of people arrived, approximately 20 individuals, who entered the room where they were staying and proceeded to remove their cell phones, documents and other belongings”, according to digital media Firsts. .

They then tied him up and took him, five adult family members and five blindfolded minors to an unknown destination, and later shot the adults, he said.

“Any attack against an Ecuadorian is an attack on Ecuador”, wrote this Saturday the head of state, Daniel Noboa, on his account on the social network X.

What happened in the provinces of Santa Elena and Manabí “reminds us that the battle continues. The National Police are mobilized and as a result we captured one of Ayampe’s kidnappers, we will not rest until we find the others,” he noted.

“This”, he added, “is an example that narcoterrorism and its allies are looking for spaces to terrorize us, but they will not succeed. My solidarity with the families who were victims of the violence of terrorists who want to destroy our country.”

Ecuador is in a state of emergency and in an “internal armed conflict” against criminal gangs, decreed last January by Noboa, at a time of increasing wave of violence.
