Protesters took a stand against the police invasion of the Mexican Embassy in Quito, capital of Ecuador, and warned that violation of the country’s sovereignty will not be allowed.

On Friday night, members of the Ecuadorian Police entered the consular complex to detain Glas, who had received political asylum from the Mexican Government and had been at the Mexican Embassy since last December, which they also considered an interventionist act.

This caused President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to order the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with Ecuador, while the Mexican Government predicted that it would appeal to the International Court of Justice to denounce Ecuador’s responsibility for violations of International Law.

Ecuador’s diplomatic complex had been under surveillance since Friday night, when Mexico broke diplomatic relations with the South American nation, committing violations of international law, specifically the Vienna Convention.

The Ecuadorian Embassy in the Mexican capital was surrounded by elements from the Ministry of Public Security of the Mexico City and throughout this Saturday its protection was reinforced with metal fences around it and a greater presence of elements and official vehicles.

The flag of Ecuador, which was inside the Ecuadorian Embassy, ​​was removed from its flagpole, while protesters upon arrival were able to wave Mexican flags outside during the protest.

Among the screams of the Mexicans who attended this protest, censure was heard against the president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, who supported the police operation on the Mexican Embassy.

“Noboa, marrano, Mexico is sovereign”; “Noboa, unhappy, respect my country”; “Ecuador, brother, a tyrant rules you”; “Ecuador yes, Noboa no”, were some of the slogans that the Mexican protesters shouted in unison.

Previously, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador thanked the messages of solidarity from civil leaders, leaders and organizations in Mexico and in different countries, for what he described as a “painful matter”, while asking Mexicans not to fall for provocations and to avoid harassment .
