War in Ukraine: seven people died as a result of Russian strikes, three as a result of a Ukrainian drone attack

Drones and missiles continue to cross the Russian-Ukrainian border. Seven people were killed on Wednesday in the Ukrainian regions of Kharkov (northeast) and Odessa (south) in overnight attacks on two energy facilities, as Russia continues its strategy of attacking power grids.

In the Odessa region, four people were killed, including a 10-year-old girl, and seven more were injured, Governor Oleg Kiper said. “The man is in serious condition, his lower limbs have been amputated,” he said on Telegram, claiming that Russian ballistic missiles had been fired at the region.

A few hours earlier, two women and a child were killed in a Russian strike in the Kharkiv region, which is regularly attacked, the Interior Ministry said, adding that two people were also injured. Governor Oleg Sinegubov posted on Telegram photographs of rescuers clearing debris and buildings from which plumes of black smoke rose. According to authorities, the attack hit the village of Liptsy, located about ten kilometers from the Russian border, causing damage to shops.

17 drones and 3 Russian missiles were fired at night

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine previously reported that two energy facilities were damaged as a result of overnight strikes in southern Ukraine. This is an electrical substation in Nikolaev and production facilities in the Odessa region, he said. The attack caused power outages in both regions.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia fired 17 drones and three missiles overnight. Two employees of the transport company were injured. Russia has been bombing Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for weeks, especially in the northeast around Kharkov, but also in other regions, causing widespread power outages.

Instead, three people, including two children, were killed Wednesday by a Ukrainian drone that targeted a car driving through a village in Russia’s Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, the governor said. “A Ukrainian drone dropped an explosive device on a civilian vehicle in the village of Apanasovka, Korenevsky district. Unfortunately, all three people who were in the car at that moment died, including two children,” Roman Starovoit said on Telegram.

Power lines and journalists

The governor also reported on Ukrainian bombings that damaged power lines and caused power outages in several communities in the region. Russian regions bordering Ukraine have been subject to almost daily drone attacks and Ukrainian strikes in response to Russia’s bombing of Ukrainian cities for more than two years.

According to local authorities, on Tuesday two people were killed as a result of Ukrainian artillery shelling in the Bryansk region. In Russia-occupied Ukraine, five civilians were injured by Ukrainian shelling in the past 24 hours in Lisichansk, a city in the east captured by Russian forces in 2022, occupation authorities said.

In the eastern Luhansk region, a group of Russian public television journalists were the target of Ukrainian shelling, which wounded a cameraman, according to Russian news agencies. Russian diplomatic spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in a press release, accused Ukraine of making Russian journalists a “priority target” with the “tacit consent” of the West.
