Israel-Hamas negotiations: what if Qatar pulls out of negotiations?

Faced with criticism, Qatar is threatening to abandon negotiations. “We are conducting a global reassessment of our role” in the ongoing mediation between Israel and the Hamas terrorist group, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abderrahman Al-Thani said on Wednesday. An alarming statement from the Gulf country, which has been playing a leading role in negotiations for a truce in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages since October 7.

This statement followed criticism from the United States. Democratic Rep. Steny Hoyer called on Doha to put more pressure on Hamas, adding that if it fails to “apply that pressure,” “the United States (must) re-evaluate its relationship with Qatar.”
