A man suspected of assisting Russia in preparing an assassination attempt on Vladimir Zelensky has been arrested in Poland.

A man suspected of maintaining contacts with Russian intelligence services and helping them prepare a possible attack on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has been arrested in Poland, Polish and Ukrainian prosecutors said on Thursday.

The Polish citizen, whose name was Pavel K., was tasked with “collecting and providing information to the military intelligence services of the Russian Federation (…), including helping the Russian intelligence services plan a possible attempt to “assassinate a foreign leader.” state, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky,” says a press release from the Polish prosecutor’s office.

Pavel K. stated that he is “ready to act on behalf of the military intelligence of the Russian Federation and has established contacts with citizens of the Russian Federation directly involved in the war in Ukraine,” he adds.

Person placed in pre-trial detention

A notification about the activities of Pavel K. was transmitted to Warsaw by the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, which subsequently made it possible to obtain the “necessary evidence.”

According to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andrey Kostin, the arrested person, in particular, was responsible for “collecting and transmitting to the aggressor state information about the security of the Rzeszow-Jasionka airport” in southeastern Poland, where the Ukrainian military The head of state often allows officials from other countries heading to Ukraine, and convoys with humanitarian aid to this country.

Pavel K. was placed in custody, Polish and Ukrainian prosecutors reported.
