The government of Mexico search “speed up” the delivery of the former vice-president of Ecuador (2013-2017) Jorge Glaswho is imprisoned in the South American country and last week sent a letter asking for help to the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obradoras it was known this Monday.

The diplomat reported that the Mexican government is working to free Glas from prison in Guayaquil where he has been confined since April 5th, when the Ecuadorian Police arrested him after the operation in Mexican Embassy in Quitowhere the politician had been seeking asylum since December.
“What we are doing (is) going to several instances, one of them the Human Rights Council. We also participate, well, we are looking at the Caracas Conventionthat it is our right to have Jorge Glas delivered to us with safe conduct and we continue to take the necessary measures to do so.“, highlighted Bárcena.
Likewise, he said that they requested support from third embassies, such as that of Swissand the Nunciature, who offered to support, see and visit Glas”and intercede with the authorities to hand him over” for Mexico.
He highlighted that Secretariat of foreign relations (SRE) focuses on the judgment presented before the Inter-American Court of Justice (CIJ) for the attack on the Mexican Embassy in Quito.
“The hearing will be on April 30th and we are focused there on the president’s instructions. (There is) a lot of legal effort to win this case before the ICJ who, I must say, responded very quickly and gave us the audition immediately” he claimed.
And he reiterated that until now diplomatic relations with Ecuadorsince they have not had any contact with that Government since the events occurred.

The controversy between the two began after the police raid on the Mexican Embassy, on April 5, to take former vice-president Glas, who has been sheltering there since December, to face a corruption trial.
And it grew because an Ecuadorian court declared Glas’ detention inside the diplomatic headquarters on April 12 illegal and arbitrary, even though he was arrested because he had not yet served his sentence for the crime. Bribery case and by illicit association in Odebrecht case.
On April 15, Glas sent a letter to López Obrador in which he asked for help and assured “He is in the worst prison in Ecuador” and which is found in “hunger strike”.
