In AI’s opinion, in the South American country there is a “policy of repression applied by the Government“, whereby “those who criticized“for the Executive”They were subjected to arbitrary detention, forced disappearances and torture, with the acquiescence of the judicial system”.

According to the document “Those who belonged to – or were perceived to belong to – the political opposition were continually attacked and were at risk of arbitrary detention, torture and other human rights violations.”.

In mid-March, Venezuela’s attorney general, Tarek William Saabrejected the indiscriminate use of the concept “forced disappearance”when there is the arrest of opponents or activists accused of crimes, cases in which – he assured – the State acts in accordance with the law.
