Security sources informed EFE this Thursday that a delegation from the Egyptian Intelligence Service will travel this Friday to Israel in an attempt to relaunch the paralyzed truce negotiations mediated by Cairo, Qatar and the United States, something that Arab and Israeli media also reported.

In addition to the exchange of prisoners and hostages, the Egyptian truce proposal insists that during the Stop the fire Israeli troops withdraw from several points in the Strip and allow displaced Palestinians to return to their homes in northern Gaza, something Israel previously rejected.

According to sources, as soon as the Egyptian delegation returns from Tel Aviv will meet with a Hamas team to study Israel’s response.

Egypt’s new diplomatic offensive comes after Qatar said this week that it is reassessing its role as mediator of Israel’s “attacks” and the “lack of seriousness” in truce negotiations.

The Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohamed bin Abderrahmanalso regretted that the truce negotiations were “going through delicate moments” and “some stagnation”, at a time when an imminent Israeli operation against Rafaa city at the southern tip of the Strip where 1.4 million people displaced by war live in overcrowded conditions.
