War in Ukraine: Kyiv condemns new “massive” Russian attack on its infrastructure

The strategy is far from new. Russian forces launched a new “massive attack” of missiles and drones on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure overnight Tuesday, leaving at least six people injured, Ukrainian authorities said.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian Air Force said it had shot down dozens of missiles and drones. “The enemy used 76 air attack weapons – 55 missiles and 21 attack drones,” she said on Telegram, adding that its air defense systems intercepted 39 missiles and 20 drones.

Rockets fired towards Kyiv

Various local authorities reported at least six injuries overnight: one in the Dnipropetrovsk region (south), one in Kirovograd (centre), two in Brovary near Kiev and at least two more in the capital.

DTEK, the largest private investor in Ukraine’s energy sector, said three thermal power plants were “severely damaged.” Its installations have been bombed about 180 times since the war began in February 2022, including five times in the last six weeks, the statement said.

According to the military administration of the city of Kyiv, Russian Tu-95MS strategic bombers fired several cruise missiles at the capital, which was put on alert for three hours. According to her, all these missiles were shot down.
