After this news, the British magazine Tatler decided to honor the memory of Prince William’s wife. Two days ago, the magazine unveiled the cover of its next issue, which features none other than the Princess of Wales.

So, after King Charles III and Elizabeth II, it is Kate’s turn to claim the rights to her portrait and complete a “royal triptych of historic proportions,” according to the British newspaper. The approach, which began with good intentions, did not find consensus among Internet users.

The portrait of the princess was heavily criticized on social networks: “Shame”; “When did she become Asian?” ” ; “The princess deserves better” or “This portrait is an insult,” we read under the post on Instagram.

British art critic Alastair Sooke also wrote in the Daily Telegraph: “Tatler’s portrait of the Princess of Wales is so bad it is unbearable.” He believes that “beneath a layer of immobile, monochromatic brown hair worthy of Lego helmets, the Princess of Wales has as much charisma as a botanist figurine perched on a wedding cake. »

The reaction is reminiscent of the widely criticized portrait of Charles III by British artist Jonathan Yeo.

Cover artist Hannah Huzor has not yet responded. Before the portrait was revealed on social media, she explained in a video published by the magazine that she wanted to “portray Kate Middleton’s soul.”

She specifically clarified that the princess did not pose for this, thereby creating the impression that her intention was not to perfectly replicate her features.
