Honduras: Small plane carrying businessman Allan Flores disappears

A small plane with Honduran registration disappeared this Saturday, allegedly in a mountainous area of Honduras after departing from the airport on the Caribbean island of Roatán, the Central American country’s Civil Aeronautics Agency reported.

The aircraft, for private use and in which only the pilot was traveling, took off at around 4:02 pm local time (22:02 GMT) from Juan Manuel Gálvez airport, on the island of Roatán, and was scheduled to land at Toncontín airport. Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras, the institution said in a statement.

According to unofficial information, the pilot of the small plane was the Honduran businessman Alan Flores.

Civil Aeronautics stated that this afternoon it received a signal from the Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) of the small plane, with registration number HR-ABB, model C-310.

The last radio communication with the pilot occurred between La Muralla National Park, located in the department of Olancho, in eastern Honduras, about “10 nautical miles from the Vokas position, 37 nautical miles from Golosón airport”, from the Caribbean city of La Ceiba, he added.

The Honduran institution indicated that it activated its “search and rescue system”, as well as that of other rescue entities in the country to begin the search for the aircraft.

The Minister of Security of Honduras, Gustavo Sánchez, announced the sending of location and search teams from the municipality of La Unión, department of Olancho, and the department of Yoro, north, to locate the lost aircraft.

The search teams “have already been on the road for two hours in a mountainous area of ​​the sector”, said Sánchez in a message on the social network X, without specifying further details. EFE
