Ecuadorian police seized 1.5 tons of cocaine from drug trafficking in Guayas province

This friday in Ecuador, the Police seized 1.5 tons of cocaine in the coastal province of Guayas, located in the southwest of the country. This was reported by the State Attorney General’s Office on their social networks.

In its Twitter account, the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that in the operation there were 20 detainees and, in addition, cell phones and documentation were seized in an operation carried out in conjunction with the National Police in a warehouse on the Terminal Terrestre-Pascuales road.

“The drug would be destined for New Zealand”he pointed out without further details. In the social network, the Prosecutor’s office He hung four photographs showing several rectangular packages lined with black plastic on a truck.

He also presented the photograph of the detainees with blurred faces, as required by law.

The Ecuadorian Government is engaged in a fight against the drug trafficking and, among other actions, this same week it put into operation a radar in the province of Manabí, also located on the coast of the Andean country, and announced that it will install another in the coastal province of Santa Elena.

Likewise, the president announced the next submission for study by the National Assembly (Parliament) of a bill that would authorize the downing of irregular aircraft in the national territory, in response to a growing drug trafficking problem.

“Soon we will present in the National Assembly a law that authorizes the demolition of irregular ships that do not accept the orders of the Ecuadorian Air Force”said the ruler at a military ceremony.

Until now, Ecuador was a transit country for drugs produced in Peru and ColombiaAlthough in recent times the authorities recognize that the management model is changing and small laboratories have been found in the northern border area, in addition to growing consumption.

This year, the Ecuadorian security forces, with the support of EE.UU., have intercepted a record 146 tons of drugs as of mid-October, compared to just over 120 in 2020 and 79 in 2019.
