Macron urges the G20 to tackle rising energy prices with environmentalism

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, today urged his partners from G20, meeting in Rome, to promote the ecological transition in their countries to tackle the rising cost of energy prices, which “affects the whole world”, and asked them to share 100,000 million dollars for this.

“The increase in energy prices affects everyone. We are supporting the French without delay and now we must provide responses that are sustainable and consistent with the ongoing ecological transition. This is my message to the G20 ″, he advanced on his social networks.

In addition, Macron said in the meeting before his partners, behind closed doors, that to accelerate the economic recovery after the pandemic, cooperation with the most vulnerable countries is needed.

For this, he proposed that the G20, the group of major powers on the planet, which make up 80% of its wealth and 60% of its population, share 100,000 million dollars with the support of the International Monetary Fund, also present in Rome.

“France is committed to doing this. Other G20 members are joining us. I ask our partners to do the same ”, he encouraged.

That collaboration should also be transferred to the vaccination campaign, so he asked his G20 allies to “intensify their efforts” to share the drug: “Solidarity, transparency, productive alliances: together we will overcome the virus,” he proposed.

Rome hosts the summit of G20 heads of state or government, with the presence of the US president, Joe Biden, and countries such as Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, but neither the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, nor the from China, Xi Jinping.

From Latin America came the president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, and that of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, while his foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, attended from Mexico.
