Coronavirus: the rate of vaccination of children triples that of adults in the United States

The rate of vaccination against coronavirus covid-19 of children between 5 and 11 years USA triple that of adults when the campaign began, in view of the data provided this Wednesday by the White House, which shows that about 10% of this population group has received the first dose in two weeks.

The White House Pandemic Response Coordinator, Jeff Zients, indicated at a press conference that 2.6 million children between those ages will have received the first dose of Pfizer / BioNTech infant serum by the end of today.

Last week 1.7 million children were vaccinated, which is three times the rate of adult vaccination when the immunization campaign began eleven months ago.

Eleven months after the start of the campaign, the percentage of adults with complete guidelines stands at 70%.

Along with the entire pattern of more than 70% of adults, Zients noted, these are two “milestones” that show the progress made and put the United States “on the right track in the fight against the virus.”

The immunization of children between 5 and 11 years old began just two weeks ago in the country, with the administration of serum from Pfizer / BioNTech, with lower potency than that of adults but which also requires two injections.

There are 28 million children between those ages across the US, and the White House has already reported that it has doses for all of them.

The average number of daily infections has rebounded slightly in the country in recent weeks, and now stands at 83,000 cases; while that of deaths maintains its progressive decline, and is at 1,000.

The United States is the country hardest hit by the covid-19 pandemic with more than 760,000 deaths since the beginning of 2020.
