The candidate for the presidency of ChileYasna Provoste invited her followers on Thursday to “regain the unity of Chile” without anyone absent, she said at the end of her campaign in the city of Concepción, in the south of the country.

“It is time to recover the unity of Chile. No one is left over and no one can be subtracted, ”said the 51-year-old candidate from the Christian Democracy party, the only woman among the seven candidates who will be measured at the polls next Sunday.

Provoste, former minister of the government of the socialist Michelle Bachelet (2004-2010; 2014-2018) closed three months of the electoral campaign before some 500 followers who came to the rally in the Plaza Independencia de Concepción, 500 km from Santiago.

“We know how to rebuild Chile after this bad government and the pandemic,” he said about the conservative president Sebastián Piñera, who will cede power on March 11, 2022 after four years marked by the social outbreak of October 2019.

Provoste promised that upon reaching the presidency he will carry out “the profound transformations that Chile has chosen, starting with caring for the great seed of institutional and political change that springs from the Constitutional Convention,” a body that is drafting a new Constitution to replace the inherited one. of the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990).

Emphasizing a message of unity, Provoste warned that “this is not just any election. This is probably the most important election after the one with which we began the reconstruction of democracy in 1989. And it is precisely an election to begin another reconstruction ”.

For Sunday, representatives of the two most antagonistic political poles arrive as favorites: the deputy of the Left Broad Front Gabriel Boric, the youngest presidential candidate in history at 35 years old, and the lawyer and far-right politician José Antonio Kast, from 55 years old and from the Republican Party.

But in a scenario of questioned polls, the aspirations of the candidate of the right-wing coalition in the Government, Sebastián Sichel (44), and Provoste also weigh.

In a country with voluntary voting, 15 million people are called to vote on Sunday. If no candidate reaches more than 50% of the votes, there will be a second round on December 19.
