Taliban meet with Qatari authorities before meeting with the US and the European Union

A delegation from the Interim Government of the taliban, led by the Afghan Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, met this Saturday with his Qatari counterpart in Doha, before holding a series of meetings with delegations from USA and of the European Union in the Arab country.

“A delegation from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (as the Taliban interim government calls itself) met with the Qatari Foreign Minister (Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani), in a meeting focused on bilateral relations, education and issues of interest mutual”Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi said in a statement.

According to Balkhi, the Taliban “They noted that significant progress has been made towards good governance and education”And showed their gratitude to the Government of Qatar for “Your humanitarian assistance and your continued cooperation”.

The Afghan Foreign Minister also met with the Turkish Ambassador to Qatar, Jehad Argin.

Turkey has pledged to provide aid for the ailing Afghan agricultural sector and to continue construction of infrastructure projects in several Afghan provinces, according to a Taliban statement.

Argin added that a delegation of Turkish businessmen will visit the Asian country next week.

The Taliban delegation is in Doha for several meetings with delegations from the US and the European Union between now and 29 November.

The fundamentalists pointed out that one of the priority issues on their agenda is the withdrawal of economic sanctions against Afghanistan, which is going through a serious humanitarian crisis.

The Taliban are also seeking the implementation of the 2020 Doha agreement, as well as preparing the ground for improving bilateral relations.

The Doha agreement, signed in February last year between the US and the Taliban, established the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, which finally took place shortly before midnight on August 31, fifteen days after the entry of the fundamentalists in Kabul .
