Biden will travel to Kentucky to inspect damage after deadly tornadoes

The president of U.S, Joe Biden, announced on Monday that he will travel to Kentucky on Wednesday to tour the scene of the tragedy and meet with relatives of the victims of the series of powerful tornadoes, which have left almost 80 dead in several states of the country.

“What they need when they need it,” said the president about the federal support available for the affected areas during a meeting at the White House attended by the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, and Deanne Criswell, the director of the Agency. Federal Emergency Management (FEMA).

Biden said that what worries him most is the “mental health” of the survivors and the “uncertainty” of those who are still looking for the missing.

At least 64 people died in Kentucky (USA) due to the impact of four tornadoes on Friday night, said this Monday the governor of the state, Andy Beshear, who anticipated that that number “will probably go up.”

The tornadoes that made landfall in Kentucky on Friday were part of a devastating storm that affected 6 states and generated more than 30 tornadoes that killed at least 78 in the south and midwest of the country.

In addition to Kentucky, the most affected state, 6 people died when a warehouse of the e-commerce giant Amazon in Illinois partially collapsed, while 2 deaths were registered in Arkansas; 4 more in Tennessee and another 2 in Missouri.
