France begins vaccinating all children between 5 and 11 years old against the coronavirus

The Minister of Health of France, Olivier Véran, announced that today the vaccination against the coronavirus covid-19 for all children from 5 to 11 years old, on a voluntary basis, once the last favorable opinion of the expert bodies has been obtained.

In an interview with the BFMTV channel, Véran indicated that as of this morning it will be possible to find appointments to administer vaccines to children and that 350 centers throughout the country will be enabled to immunize them, with specific circuits for them.

The minister insisted that the vaccination of those children from 5 to 11 years old It is advisable not only to limit contagion throughout society but also for an individual interest for them.

The reason is that, in view of the studies that have been carried out in the countries where they are already vaccinated, they have a greater risk of developing a serious form of covid in case of being infected, than of having a serious reaction due to the vaccine .

In this regard, he noted that yesterday there was France 145 hospitalized for coronavirus between the ages of 5 and 11, and 27 of them were in intensive care units.

Together they represent less than 1%, but the risk is not negligible, stressed Véran.

In total, there were 16,076 people hospitalized for covid this Tuesday, 158 more than the day before, of which 3,096 in the ucis (71 more). In parallel, 229 additional deaths were reported, bringing the number to 121,946 since the records began in March 2020.

In France, vulnerable children between 5 and 11 years old (at risk of developing a serious form due to their medical history) or those with a vulnerable person are already being vaccinated.
