Argentina This Wednesday he again broke his record of infections by coronavirus after reporting 95,159 cases in just 24 hours, amid the rapid rise in infections in recent weeks. On this day, the previous historical mark of 81,210 cases notified yesterday was surpassed. According to the daily report released by the Ministry of Health, a total of 407,825 people are currently suffering from the disease in the country, whose total number of positives since the pandemic began amounts to 5,915,695.

This situation coincides with the circulation of thousands of people who take their summer vacations and travel throughout Argentina, where there are practically no restrictions due to the pandemic.

In addition, This Wednesday 52 people died of coronavirus, the highest number since last October 12 and that increases the number of fatalities since the pandemic began to a total of 117,346.

The percentage of occupation of beds in intensive care units for all types of pathologies is 37.2% nationwide and 38.1% if only Buenos Aires and its periphery are considered.

VACCINATION AND RESTRICTIONS

With about 45 million inhabitants, Argentina continues with its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus that began at the end of last year: so far, 38.3 million people have a dose and another 33 million have the complete vaccination scheme.

Likewise, 2.6 million Argentines have received a third additional dose and another 3.6 million a booster dose, within the framework of the vaccination strategy initiated several weeks ago to reinforce the immunity of various groups.

Although last October the Argentine Government relaxed most of the current restrictions, including the total opening of borders, the cases began to rise in November and soared in the last month, giving rise to the so-called Coronavirus “third wave”.

On January 1 of this year, the use of the health pass came into force, which will require proof of complete vaccination schedules to be able to attend activities considered to be of “epidemiological risk”, such as mass events outdoors or in closed spaces.

The Government of the province of Buenos Aires, the most populated district in the country and the one that tops the list of infections in this new wave of the pandemic, ruled out on Wednesday the introduction of new restrictions while the health system is in good working order.

“As long as we do not have an increase in hospitalizations or an increase in deaths that puts the health system at risk, we are not going to do it (impose restrictions). There is nothing to advance because, at the moment, there are none of these measures in the folder, “said the Minister of Health of the province of Buenos Aires, Nicolás Kreplak, at a press conference.
