Investigation opened for the murder of a French woman in a market

A drama recently took place in Morocco on the municipal market of Tiznit. Moroccan police on Saturday opened an investigation into the death of a French woman killed in this market in the south-west of the kingdom, reported the national news agency MAP, which reported the arrest of a suspect.

According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the victim was identified as “a 79-year-old French national, residing in a campsite near the city of Tiznit”, south of Agadir. The police arrested a 31-year-old man in Agadir on Saturday evening and investigations are underway to determine the reasons for his act, adds the DGSN, which does not specify when the woman was killed.

The police evoke “the hypothesis of an assault for theft”

The police had indicated earlier that a judicial investigation had been opened to arrest an “alleged suspect in a case of assault and battery with the use of a stabbing weapon, which resulted in the death of a foreign national”. According to the preliminary data of the investigation, the suspect caused the death “with the help of a sharp object while she was at the municipal market of Tiznit”, indicates the DGSN, adding not to exclude “the hypothesis of an assault for theft”.

The suspect is suspected of having committed “premeditated murder and attempted murder”, according to the same source. He “was arrested after attempting to physically assault customers of a café on the coast of Agadir, including a Belgian victim who was taken to hospital to receive the necessary treatment”. It is also specified that the suspect had previously been admitted to a psychiatric hospital “from September 25 to October 25, 2021”.
