The number of infections in the last 24 hours was also released and stood at 102,144, below the average of close to 300,000 daily infections in recent days.

However, these data do not reflect reality, since they correspond to the weekend, when the detention services partially work. Just over 14 million people have already been diagnosed with COVID-19 in France.

Arnaud Fontanet, an epidemiologist at the Pasteur Institute, considered this Monday in an interview with France Inter radio that “the worst scenario is moving away”, since the limit of contamination has already passed, at least in the Parisian region, the most populous in France.

He also predicted, as is the case, that hospitals will continue to be in high demand in the coming weeks.

The 25,776 hospitalized for COVID-19 -still below the peak of 30,000 in 2020- exceed the numbers of Sunday (24,887) and a week ago (22,749). ICU occupancy has also picked up slightly, hovering around 4,000 beds, although still far from the maximum of 7,000 in April 2020.
