The price of the US dollar in Peru was on the rise in the informal or parallel market today, Monday, June 6, 2022. The exchange rate rose to S/ 3,690 for purchase and S/ 3,720 for sale, according to exchange houses in Lima.

On the other hand, in the interbank market, the greenback closed at S/ 3,710, according to data provided by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR).

So far this year, the greenback accumulates a decline of 7.04% compared to the last price of 2021, at S / 3,991.

The foreign currency registered an appreciation of 10.28% at the end of 2021 due to the impact of political uncertainty and doubts about the economic outlook due to the new variants of the coronavirus.

At the regional level, most of the regional currencies and stock markets closed with losses on Friday, amid a global advance of the dollar after a positive data of employment in the United States and negative perspectives for the economy that distanced investors from the risk assets.

According to Reuters, the dollar rose against a basket of currencies on Friday, after a better-than-expected US employment report pointed to a tight labor market that could prompt the Federal Reserve to move forward with its interest rate hikes. interest.

Nonfarm payrolls rose by 390,000 last month, the Labor Department said in its jobs report, closely watched by markets. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast payrolls to rise by 325,000 in May.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency against six other major currencies, gained 0.4% to 102.16, after rising as high as 102.22 after the jobs report.

Meanwhile, stocks fell weighed down by Wall Street, after negative economic prospects made by the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, who outlined plans to lay off 10% of his staff.

US stock indices fell dragged down by shares in Apple and Tesla, while the strong jobs report supported views that the Fed will continue its aggressive tightening policy to cool inflation to decades-highs.
