To renew its fleet, easyJet confirms an order for 56 A320neo aircraft

After two years at half mast for air traffic, a month ago easyJet published its results and posted a reduced net loss in the first half thanks to the post-lockdown recovery, showing its optimism for this summer. On Tuesday, the British airline announced that it would exercise an option to purchase from Airbus on 56 A320neo family aircraft.

These new aircraft should be delivered between 2026 and 2029, as well as 18 A321neo between 2024 and 2027. “The proposed purchase strengthens Easyjet’s order book with Airbus until 2028 and continues the rejuvenation of the company’s fleet” “low cost” says easyJet in a press release. It will gradually withdraw its older A320s or A319s.

Less fuel consumption

These new planes consume 15 to 25% less fuel, and allow more passengers to be transported, notes the company, which thus intends to save money and meet environmental challenges.

According to Airbus list prices, this order represents some $6.5 billion, but the company indicates that the price paid is “much lower” thanks to discounts obtained from Airbus under a 2013.
