The price of the US dollar in Colombia operates on the rise this Wednesday, amid growing risk aversion derived from fears of a global recession, which led investors to take refuge in assets denominated in dollars.

The price of the dollar in Colombia for this Wednesday, July 6, 2022 is 4,265 Colombian pesos, according to data from the Bloomberg agency.

At the regional level, Latin American currency and stock markets fell sharply on Tuesday, dragged down by growing risk aversion stemming from fears of a global recession, which led investors to take refuge in dollar-denominated assets.

According to the Reuters agency, the region’s markets followed in the footsteps of currencies such as the euro, which was plummeting to a minimum of two decades.

“We are in the midst of a global move, there is a search for safe haven assets and this has generated a massive purchase of dollars globally,” said Andrés Cuartas, manager of international fixed income at Renta4Global. “Currencies such as the Colombian, the Brazilian and the Mexican peso are the ones that are mainly suffering the effects.”

In 2021, the US dollar was exchanged at a maximum of 4,033.25 Colombian pesos, while its lowest level was 3,412.80.
