InterRail: The European Union is offering 35,000 travel tickets for free, here’s how to take advantage of it

30 days free travel? This is what the European Commission proposes to offer to 35,000 young people in the European Union, through the traditional DiscoveryEU competition, giving away as many InterRail passes that will allow them to travel for the next few months free of charge for a maximum of thirty days on mainland rail networks and some ferries. The registration platform opened on Wednesday.

As stated on the registration platform, only Europeans born between July 1, 2004 (inclusive) and June 30, 2005 (inclusive) can use it. You can apply alone or with friends (maximum four people per group), until March 29. Registration, which consists of providing your ID card or passport number, ends with a quiz of several questions about Europe.

Quiz Answers Compilation

The quiz is not to be taken lightly. The organizers will “sort the candidates by country, according to their answers to the quiz and the sub-question,” according to the registration platform’s FAQ. “At least 35,000 young people will be selected from candidates who answer the quiz correctly and answer the sub-question most correctly,” the statement said. A certain number of “winners” are fixed for each country so that everyone can benefit from them.

Selected candidates will then be able to travel “for a minimum of 1 day and a maximum of 1 month between 15 June 2023 (first departure date) and 30 September 2024 (last return date),” the European Commission states. The lucky ones will be offered two options: a fixed option that limits the number of destinations to two countries or cities in one country; or a flexible option that leaves the option to visit all countries if you are not traveling for more than 7 days.
