Wall Street opens in green and the Dow Jones rises 0.09%

Wall Street opened this Wednesday in the green and the Dow Jones Industrials, its main indicator, rose 0.09%, as investors await the upcoming announcements today from the United States Federal Reserve (Fed).

Ten minutes after the start of operations on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones rose to 33,801 units and the selective S&P 500 added 0.15% to 4,141 points.

For its part, the composite index of the Nasdaq market, in which the main technology companies are listed, gained 0.12% to 13,200 integers.

The Fed is scheduled to release a monetary policy announcement this afternoon and then central bank president Jerome Powell will hold a press conference.

The Fed’s two-day policy meeting is expected to conclude with the central bank’s announcement of another 25 basis point rate hike.

This announcement will come after a difficult session for the market. The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq fell more than 1% on Tuesday as continued contagion concerns in the regional banking sector weighed on markets following the collapse of First Republic Bank and subsequent acquisition by JPMorgan.

The only sectors that woke up in red were energy and essential goods, which fell by 0.66% and 0.27%, respectively. While the greatest gains were for industrial and communications, which fell by 0.54% and 0.47%, respectively.

Among the 30 Dow Jones stocks, the companies with the biggest losses were Nike (-2.51%) and Walgreens (-2.42%). While the biggest gains were for Intel (2.43%) and Apple (1.02%).
