Yesterday, Thursday May 11, the US currency closed at S/3.6625, scoring a 0.23% decline compared to the previous close and becoming at the lowest value reached in the current year.
With yesterday’s close, the currency accumulates a decline of 3.80% in 2023. During the session, the US currency registered a minimum value of S/3.66 and a maximum of S/3.69.
According to Asvim Asencios, Foreign Exchange trader at Renta4 SAB, the dollar had a mixed behavior on Thursday. At the beginning of the day, there was great demand from non-resident companies that led the dollar to a maximum level of S/3.69. However, the offer on the corporate side led the dollar to a minimum level of 3,661.
“The BCRP intervened by placing an exchange swap for sale for S/ 210 million at an average rate of 5.57%. Likewise, there were maturities of exchange swap sale for S/ 200 million”he asserted.
At a global level, Asencios explained that the dollar fell after economic data regarding the US labor market was published, showing an increase in new unemployment claims of 264,000 compared to the 245,000 that were projected. Said indicator reflects the dynamism of the economy at a time when other indicators in the United States were leaning towards a recession.
