In this note you will know the price of the dollar in Peru today, Tuesday, May 16, 2023, according to official information provided by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

Yesterday, Monday the 15th, the US currency closed at S/3.6680, as announced by the issuing entity, registering an advance of 0.22% compared to the close of Friday the 12th, when it traded S/3,660.

According to Fabiola Gutierrez, Currency Trader of Renta4 SAB, during the day the supply came from local corporations, with the dollar reaching a maximum level of S/3.6660. He also commented that in the market 195 million dollars were traded at an average price of S/3.6637.

During the day, the BCRP intervened by placing an exchange rate swap for S/ 200 million at an average rate of 5.60%. Likewise, there were maturities of exchange swap sales for S/ 200 million.

At the regional level, Gutiérrez commented that “Currencies in Latin America were mixed given the panorama of uncertainty perceived in the market due to the fact that last Friday the meeting between the United States government and Congress was postponed, pending the debate on the increase in the debt ceiling”.

He added that the statements by the presidents of the Atlanta and Chicago Feds agreed that it is not yet time to cut interest rates, since inflation is still far from the target target of 2%. As was known last week, the inflation data showed a slight decrease for the month of April (4.9%).

Likewise, in the parallel market or the main exchange houses, the dollar was trading at S/ 3,649 for purchase and S/ 3,659 for sale according to data from the portal cuantoestaeldolar.pe.
