Consumer prices in Metropolitan Lima decreased 0.15% in June 2023

The price reduction of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages It was due to the lower prices observed in meat (-7.4%) such as eviscerated chicken (-16.5%), chicken cuts: wings (-12.7%), breast (-9.0%) and leg (-9.0%); Milanese (-7.6%); chicken giblets (-6.7%) and eviscerated hen (-1.2%). Likewise, other food products (-3.8%) such as coriander (-34.3%), hydrated dressings (-5.7%), special ground chili pepper (-5.0%), ground yellow chili (-4 0.1%) and ground garlic (-3.7%). In oils and fats (-1.0%) bottled vegetable oil decreased (-2.4%); in milk, cheese and eggs (-0.5%) the price of chicken eggs fell (-2.9%); and among vegetables, legumes include potatoes and other tubers (-0.1%), the prices of celery (-18.1%), beetroot (-15.5%), corn (-14.6%), lettuce (-11.6%), chili pepper (-11.6%), green bean (-8.8%), carrot (-8.2%), cassava (-7.4%), yellow potato ( -7.2%), red potato (-7.2%), white (-6.8%), color (-5.4%), yellow sweet potato (-3.8%) and tomato (-3, 6%).

In Transport the prices of Fuels for vehicles decreased (-3.8%) such as liquefied petroleum gas for vehicles (-8.5%), diesel oil (-5.2%) and gasohol (-3.6%); interprovincial bus tickets (-1.8%) and purchase of vehicles (-0.7%) such as new automobiles (-0.7%). While, the prices of vehicular natural gas (1.5%) and passenger transport by air (0.6%) as well as national airfare (4.3%) rose.

The lowest prices in Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels it is supported by the lower prices of domestic gas (-0.8%); residential electricity consumption (-0.4%) due to the new tariff schedule as of June 4; and rented dwellings (-0.1%) such as apartment building rentals (-0.2%). Meanwhile, the price of residential natural gas consumption increased (3.4%).

Also, food service in restaurants and similar establishments (0.7%) such as chicken milanesa (1.9%), breakfast in restaurants (1.8%), desserts (1.1%), Creole dishes (1 0.0%), chicken broth (0.8%), restaurant menus (0.7%), grilled chicken (0.6%) and sandwiches 0.5%).

In Miscellaneous Goods and Services the prices of hairdressing salons and personal care establishments (0.6%) such as hair dyeing (0.8%), haircuts for men (0.8%) and women (0.7%) increased; as well as aesthetic care for hands and feet (0.6%); likewise, other appliances, articles and products for personal care (0.5%) such as toilet soap (1.4%), toiletries for babies (1.2%), shampoo (0.9%), machines razors (0.6%), toothbrushes (0.5%), toothpastes (0.4%), deodorants (0.4%) and disposable diapers (0.3%).

Products with the highest price variation

In the month of June 2023, of the 586 products that make up the family basket, 371 registered price increases, 131 decreased, and 84 products maintained their prices. The products with the highest price increases were: red head onion (45.19%), bonito (27.93%), mango (23.83%), Chinese onion (18.17%), spinach (17.97 %), white grape (17.54%), horse mackerel (13.75%) and mackerel (11.59%). Meanwhile, the products with lower prices were: cilantro (-34.35%), celery (-18.14%), eviscerated chicken (-16.47%), beetroot (-15.48%), corn (-14.63%), chicken wings (-12.68%), chili pepper (-11.61%) and lettuce (-11.60%).

Products with the highest incidence in the monthly variation

The price increase in Metropolitan Lima during the month of June it was mainly influenced by the decrease in prices of foods such as eviscerated chicken, chicken breast and leg, chicken eggs and white potatoes, which together contributed -0.470 percentage points to the result for the month; offset by the rise in prices for head onion, tuna fish and horse mackerel, mango and restaurant menus.

Variation of prices by cities

In the month of analysis, twenty-two cities where the Consumer’s price index prices have been reduced. The most significant negative variations were observed in the cities of Piura (-0.88%), Pucallpa (-0.75%), Chimbote (-0.60%), Ica (-0.51%) and Huancavelica (- 0.45%). Meanwhile, four cities increased in price: Arequipa (0.19%), Tumbes (0.18%), Chiclayo (0.12%) and Tarapoto (0.06%).

Wholesale prices nationwide fell by 0.75%

In June 2023, the Index of Wholesale Prices Nationwide decreased 0.75%, with an accumulated variation of -0.98% for the first six months and the annualized variation of 0.51%, due to the lower prices shown by domestic manufactured products (diesel oil, LPG, industrial oil, cables : energy and general use, metal containers, meat: chicken and pork, cloves, cotton fiber yarn, vegetable shortening and polypropylene films); and livestock (live chicken, live hen and pigs); however, the prices of agricultural products (onion, tomato, garlic, mango, dried beans, sweet potato, starchy corn, plantain and paddy rice) rose; and fishing (bonito, mackerel, horse mackerel, cachema, mullet, hake, grouper and trout). Likewise, the prices of imported goods fell due to changes in the exchange rate (fertilizers: nitrogenous and binary, diesel oil, mobile phones, soybean meal, polyester fibers, soybean cakes, construction rods, transport vehicles, loaders and front bulldozers, automobiles, steel sheets, uncarded cotton, hard yellow corn, and wheat).

Machinery and Equipment Prices in Metropolitan Lima fell 0.72%

In the sixth month of the year, the Machinery and Equipment Price Index of Metropolitan Lima it decreased 0.72% with an accumulated variation of -2.62% and the annualized variation of 1.18%. This behavior was influenced by the lower prices of capital goods of national origin, such as machinery and equipment for transportation (mototaxi, bodies and springs for automotive vehicles); machinery and equipment for the industry (transformers, bakery ovens, electrical panels and shelves); other machinery and equipment (nets for fishing) and machinery and equipment for agriculture (picks and lamps). Likewise, the prices of imported capital goods decreased, affecting machinery and equipment for agriculture (tractors, lamps and picks); machinery and equipment for the industry (industrial sewing machines, computers, loaders and printers); machinery and equipment for transportation (highway tractor for semi-trailers and pick-up trucks); and other machinery and equipment (electromedical devices).

Prices of construction materials in Metropolitan Lima decreased 0.54%

In the month of June 2023, the Price Index of Construction Materials of Metropolitan Lima it decreased 0.54% with an accumulated variation of 0.10% and the annualized variation of -0.42%. This behavior is explained by the lower prices of eight of its ten component groups: electrical supplies (energy cables and wires and cables for fixed installations); plastic pipes and accessories (PVC pipes: water, drainage and electricity); bricks (confectioner, king kong, tambourine and for roofing); also, glass (tempered glass); metallic (hot-rolled steel tubes, steel plates: LAC and LAF, nails and corrugated galvanized plates); majolica and mosaics (floor coverings); wood (particleboard and oak); and binders (type I portland cement). However, prices for aggregates (sand and concrete) and concrete structures (ready-mix concrete) increased.
