SNCF strike: the social movement of inspectors begins its last day this Sunday

The strike by SNCF controllers must end after the winter holidays are disrupted. The SNCF estimates that 150,000 travelers out of a million due to travel were unable to board a train during the three days of the strike, with every second TGV train cancelled. And train services will remain “severely disrupted” for several more hours, expected to continue until 8am on Monday, the train company warned.

The movement was very popular: three out of four controllers went on strike over higher wages. All interested customers have been notified by email or SMS, SNCF assures, and can receive a refund if their train was cancelled.

Trenitalia is replenished

This weekend will see the first returns from Zone C (Paris, Montpellier and Toulouse) as well as departures from Zone A (Lyon, Bordeaux, Dijon, etc.) and SNCF is prioritizing connections to Alpine ski resorts where trains are overcrowded . in both directions. Some train lines were hit harder by the strike, such as Paris-Bordeaux, where two-thirds of trains were canceled on Saturday.

But there should be more trains on this Atlantic axis on Sunday, TGV Atlantique chief Franck Dubourdieu told AFP. If some customers change their ticket for travel on Monday, “we can move everyone,” he assured Friday.

Some travelers on the Paris-Lyon line returned to Trenitalia trains, which were 8% more full than last year.

“There is a peak this year, but it is difficult to say how much is natural demand and what is the impact of strike announcements,” said a spokesman for new competitor SNCF. “We regret the strikes in the railway sector. They keep travelers away from the train, the greenest mode of transport, especially at times when they need it most,” continued the Trenitalia spokesperson.

“Double bookings” on BlaBlaCar

Platform BlaBlaCar has noted a “doubling in booking demand” for car and bus sharing since the SNCF transport plan was announced on Wednesday. On Saturday, BlaBlaCar said it had added additional flights to “meet demand”, notably from Paris to Rennes, Toulouse, Nice and Marseille, and that car-sharing slots were still available.

On the roads, motorists were stuck in traffic jams on Saturday in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes at the entrance to ski resorts, as well as in the Paris region. According to Bison foot, the road network should be quieter on Sunday.
