Carrefour: CEO Alexandre Bompard will earn at least 4.5 million euros for 2023

His remuneration is not in crisis. Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard will receive, as in previous years, at least 4.5 million euros for 2023, to which shares will later be added if the general meeting gives the green light on May 26, according to an official statement. Including fixed and variable remuneration, Alexandre Bompard, group CEO since July 2017, received €4.43 million for 2021, €4.54 million for 2022 and is due to receive €4.54 million for 2023, according to the universal registration Carrefour document for 2023, published online at the end of March and verified on Tuesday.

At the May 2023 general meeting, Carrefour shareholders approved only 60.69% of the CEO’s remuneration for 2022 and 56.75% for 2023. Mass protest, rare among large groups.

Sales are growing despite inflation

At the end of February, the distributor estimated that it had emerged from a “challenging environment” of high inflation in 2023, with sales up 3.6% to €94.1 billion and a sharp increase in net profit (+23%) to 1.66. billion euros.

In 2023, the CEO’s remuneration consists of a fixed part (EUR 1.6 million) and a variable part (EUR 2.85 million), 75,000 EUR of remuneration for the director’s mandate and just under 17,000 EUR in in-kind benefits, including service automobile. .

To these amounts is added “long-term remuneration” in the form of “performance shares in an amount equal to 55% of the maximum total remuneration”, or a maximum of €5.3 million. This is provided that “performance conditions are achieved” and that Alexandre Bompard will be present in the company on February 14, 2026.

Variable part

The financial document, first published by online publication L’Informé, reveals that Alexandre Bompard currently owns just over a million Carrefour shares. The distributor’s shares were worth 15.875 euros at Thursday’s close, giving a total value of about 16.3 million euros.

The manager’s remuneration for 2024, put to a vote in May, includes a constant fixed portion (€1.6 million) and a variable portion, depending on performance criteria, of up to 190% of that fixed portion (€3.04 million). . A long-term stock plan of “55% of the maximum total compensation” is also planned.
