Civil Service: Olympics strike notices ‘served’, CGT says

The CGT will not respect the Olympic Truce. The union, which has already threatened strikes during the Paris Olympics and Paralympics, announced on Wednesday that it had served notices on three branches of the public service (state, local government and hospitals).

These strike notices cover the period from 15 April to 15 September, which therefore includes the period of the Olympic Games (26 July to 11 August) and the Paralympic Games (28 August to 8 September). In a press release, the first civil servants’ union is demanding, among other things, “long-term employment, wage compensation for professional restrictions caused by the Games, (…) vacation rights, telecommuting options and shutdowns.”

In early March, Celine Verzeletti, on behalf of the CGT civil service, declared “strong dissatisfaction with the services that will be mobilized during the Olympic Games, voluntarily or not”, citing a figure of 100,000 civil servants on deck. and expected sectoral strikes.

“We want the government to take immediate action to ensure the success of the Games. […] We have been repeating the same thing for months and no one cares,” said Sophie Binet, general secretary of the CGT.
