Lima, December 21, 2021Updated on 12/21/2021 11:24 am

The exchange rate fell slightly on Tuesday Mexico due to the appreciation of the peso in the face of a global decline in the dollar, in a market attentive to news about the advance of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, which has forced several countries to impose restrictions again.

Today the price of the dollar stood at 20.7523 pesos in the Mexican market, 0.10% lower than the reference price on Monday.

In a report, CI Banco analysts indicated that “concerns about Ómicron occur just when volatility increases as we approach the festive dates and the volume of trading decreases.”

Reuters reported that South Korea, the Netherlands, Germany and Ireland are among the nations that have reimposed partial or full closures, or other social distancing measures, in recent days.

Thailand will reinstate mandatory quarantine for foreign visitors from Tuesday, while the UK, Germany and Portugal are studying new measures.

In the United States, the administration of President Joe Biden said it will open federal COVID-19 testing centers in New York this week and purchase 500 million rapid tests to take at home that Americans will be able to order online for free.

Today the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) was operating with a moderate profit, after a day of strong setbacks in which investors were dominated by nervousness over the advance of the new Omicron variant in several countries.

The benchmark S & P / BMV IPC index, made up of the shares of the 35 issuers with the highest value by capitalization and liquidity in the Mexican market, rose 0.60% to 51,931.73 points in the morning.
