Ellen DeGeneres announces the opening of her campus for the conservation of gorillas in Rwanda

Ellen DeGeneres has taken on a new challenge: to help save the gorillas in Rwanda. And since Tuesday, this challenge has taken on a new dimension, since the Ellen DeGeneres campus, within the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, is now open to visitors – researchers and tourists alike.

“Dian Fossey has always been a hero of mine, so it’s been a lifetime honor to support this project. To see my name next to hers on the walls of this beautiful campus, and to know that I am helping to protect endangered gorillas and carrying on Dian’s legacy, is just amazing…” she said in an official statement to accompany the opening.

Activist Dian Fossey rose to prominence in the 1960s with her fight to protect African gorillas, whose natural habitat is threatened by humans. His work was brought to the screen in the film Gorillas in the Mist, released in 1988, where she was played by Sigourney Weaver.
