Spike Lee dissects 9/11 conspiracy theories

What happened on September 11, 2001? This is what wants to know Spike Lee, obviously not convinced by the official conclusions. The director met “over 200 people” for this four-part documentary series, titled NYC Epicenters 9/11-2021 ½ and broadcast on HBO. Regarding the destruction of the Twin Towers, he went to meet members of the conspiratorial group Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth.

They believe, among other things, that the kerosene contained in planes, when burning, could not have reached a temperature high enough to melt the metal structure of buildings. A theory to which Spike Lee adheres.

Questions

” I have questions. The heat required to melt the steel was not reached. And when you compare the way Building 7 collapsed with other building collapses in demolitions, you see the same thing, ”he explains to New York Times.

With this documentary, the director has a goal: “I hope that maybe Congress will hold a hearing, a Congressional hearing on 9/11. The US government, however, already published its findings on 9/11 in 2004 in a 585-page report, available online to the public. An investigation apparently not sufficient for Spike Lee, who “hopes”, with his documentary, to allow people “to get an idea for themselves”. “I respect the intelligence of the public,” he adds.

An approach similar to antivax and “to those who think that Joe Biden was not legitimately elected”, reminds him the journalist of the New York Times. “People think whatever they want anyway. I was called a racist for Do the Right Thing. I was called an anti-Semite for Mo’Better Blues. I was called a misogynist afterwards She’s Gotta Have It. And you know what. I’m still here after four decades in the making, ”replied Spike Lee.
