The pontiff, the first to participate in the G7, was invited to the session in which countries that do not belong to this club of powers normally participate. The current Italian presidency also invited Argentine president Javier Milei, among others.

Among the themes, he said melonthere will be support confirmation for Ukrainein search of ideas to achieve “a just and lasting peace”, as well as the conflict in Middle East for “avoid escalation and provide peace, stability and security across the region.”

He G7 will also study the climate crisisfood security, will propose a “peer relationship” with developing countries and the migratory phenomenon, with special attention to the African case and the fight against trafficking in human beings.

But the advent of AI will also be addressed, which melon described as “the greatest anthropological challenge of our time.”

The current president of G7 considered that this technology “It can generate great opportunities, but at the same time it carries enormous risks”so much so that it could affect the global balance.

melon He chose to develop governance so that Artificial Intelligence is controlled by man and, to this end, he called on his colleagues to face a ethical reflection about its use and development.

That is why he gave as an example the Vatican initiative Rome calls for ethics in AIwhich since 2020 has sought to promote the concept of “algorithmic”, that is, giving an ethical dimension to algorithms.

“The Italian presidency of the G7 “We want to highlight this journey initiated by the Holy See and bring it to the attention of other leaders on the occasion of the Apulia summit”, explained melon when announcing the presence of the Argentine pontiff.

Francisco closely follows the evolution of this tool and in fact dedicated his message to it for the World Peace Day this year to warn that its use could pose risks to peace and human survival, which is why he called for its good use.

In addition to other allusions to the theme in his homilies and speeches, on March 8 he appointed the person responsible for the subsidiary of Google AI, Demis Hassabisnew ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.
