The Socialist Party, through Olivier Faure, demanded on Friday the suspension of the EU-Israel association agreement, which its European candidate Raphael Glucksmann said was “destroying the Gaza Strip.” This Friday, the Hamas health ministry estimated that 34,356 Gazans, mostly civilians, have been killed since the conflict the Islamist movement sparked with Israel with the October 7 attack began.
“We cannot accept that the far-right government, the Netanyahu government, continues to indiscriminately target civilians, women, children, combatants, journalists and humanitarian workers,” condemned PS First Secretary Olivier Faure in the Public Senate. “You have children who are now orphans, crippled, children who want only one thing in life – revenge for what they suffered,” he adds.
Olivier Faure calls for “the suspension of the agreement between Israel and the European Union so that we can put our best foot forward and ensure that Europe does not simply reunite with the United States and make its own choices.”

The Association Agreement between the EU, Israel’s largest trading partner, and the latter in particular provides privileged access to Israeli products on the European market.
“The EU remains silent on the plight of Palestinian civilians”
Faced with a government that is “destroying the Gaza Strip,” “the European Union remains silent on the fate of Palestinian civilians,” lamented the head of the socialist list in the European elections, Raphael Glucksmann. “It is not enough to repeat that we want a two-state solution (…). It’s time to put much more pressure on the Israeli government,” he reasoned on BFMTV.

Rafael Glucksmann supports “the efforts of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to achieve recognition of a Palestinian state, to show that we are truly committed to the fact that this state is emerging and that this is not just a matter of principle.” According to the Spanish press, recognition of a Palestinian state by Spain could happen on June 9, the day of the European elections, “or in the following weeks.”
