“Fast X”: Jason Momoa and scene from “Fast and Furious” that was altered to include him as a new villain

There are fewer and fewer days left for fans of the “Fast and Furious” saga to be able to enjoy “Fast X”, the new installment of this lucrative action franchise starring Vin Diesel; which also marks the beginning of the end. The big surprise for this upcoming film is the actor’s debut Jason Momoa (“Aquaman”) as Dante, the ultimate villain seeking revenge against the family of Dominic Toretto.

Despite the fact that it is the first appearance of the American in the famous car saga; his link to the story dates back to the fifth film. How did the production manage to include the character of Momoa in fiction? Coming up next, we tell you.

After the premiere of “Fast and Furious” in 2001, the family of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) has been faced with different villains: from Johnny Tran to Cipher. For “Fast X”, the baton to make life impossible for the protagonist has been taken by Jason Momoa, who will give life to Dante in fiction.

Despite the fact that no further details about his character were known at first, the premiere of the official trailer for “Fast X” on February 10 gave us a glimpse of what this “new” villain would be, who comes to exact revenge. The first clue this clip gives us about Dante is that he has access to the latest technology: he throws a small device that is capable of knocking over a moving truck.

Dominic Toretto. You are about to learn all about fear. You have built such a beautiful life full of love and family. I never had that opportunity. You stole it from me. My future. My family. And now I’m going to break yours. Piece by piece”, is the declaration of war that Dante leaves.

But the really important thing comes in the second 45 of the first official trailer. At that time, we go back to “Fast and Furious 5”, a film that was set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) embark on a mission, together with their team, to rob a vault that holds 100 million dollars, which belongs to the corrupt businessman Hernán Reyes.

And, to tell the truth, this “magical” way of including Jason Momoa’s villain in “Fast X” is really ingenious because, if we remember the scene of the robbery of the vault in the fifth installment of “Fast and Furious”, we realize realize that shoeing Dante is possible (by adding a couple of shots to that scene).

Also, the peak moment of “Fast and Furious 5” comes in the police pursuit of the protagonists on a bridge. Once Toretto and Brian O’Conner see that they probably won’t be able to ‘get out’ of this situation, Dom makes a radical decision. He opts to free his partner and let her run away because, as he says on the tape, he has a son to take care of. That way, Dominic is left alone to face the police.

As the magic of the cinema can do everything, it kills everyone in a matter of seconds. Although there is only one objective left: to destroy Hernán Reyes. That is where the second appearance of Jason Momoa fits. In the fifth installment of the franchise, it is seen that two of the businessman’s cars are chasing Toretto: Hernán Reyes is in one and his sniper is in the other. Precisely, in this second vehicle, it is where, as seen in the trailer of “Fast X”, Dante (Momoa) was going as a driver.

Once the car falls into the water, the scene cuts out. But, to make sense of the incorporation of this character, it was decided to -again- add a few more shots. It is seen that Jason Momoa ends up in the depths of the river, but, at the last second, he opens his eyes: a clear indication that he was not going to die and will seek revenge. Will he make it? We will be able to resolve that question after the premiere of “Fast X” in the middle of this month.
