Ukrainian Kyiv Virtuosi Orchestra will inaugurate the 2023 Symphony Cycle

The Lima Philharmonic Society will kick off its 2023 Symphonic Cycle with a concert by the prestigious Kyiv Virtuosi Orchestra. Directed by Dmitry Yablonsky, a Grammy-nominated cellist, the musical ensemble will perform on June 2 at the Santa Úrsula Auditorium, as part of the celebration of the society’s 116th anniversary.

This event will also feature the participation of prominent artists such as Avi Avital, an Israeli mandolinist accompanied by the Arcangelo Orchestra, the National Youth Bicentennial Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pablo Sabat with the Cuban pianist Jorge Luis Pratt as soloist, as well as the prominent Argentine soprano Verónica Cangemi. together with harpsichordist Manuel de Olaso.

The exclusive ensemble brings together outstanding professional chamber musicians and soloists who have found immediate success on renowned venues in Paris, Japan, London and even San Francisco. In addition to their activity as a chamber orchestra, they are also in great demand as a symphony orchestra in special projects.

During this next concert in Lima, they will offer a captivating program with two cellos in G minor, RV 531, by Antonio Vivaldi; the Concerto for cello and orchestra “Jacob’s Dream” by the Israeli composer Baruch Berliner; and Symphony No. 10 in B minor, MWV No. 10, by Félix Mendelssohn.

In addition, the second movement of the ‘Cello Concerto No. 2’ by the Ukrainian composer Alexey Shor will be presented, followed by the Holberg Suite, op. 40 by Edvard Grieg, and culminating with the Spanish Dance by the Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skory.

The Philharmonic Society of Lima begins its monthly calendar of concerts, which in addition to this second arrival in Peru of Kyiv Virtuosi, presents this Tuesday, June 13, Canadian violinist Lara St. John accompanied by English pianist Martin Kennedy, and then, on Tuesday June 20, with London-based Peruvian violist Varinia Oyola-Rebaza accompanied by Hungarian pianist Mihály Berecz.
