“Toxic relationship”, the work that talks about contemporary love

Proposing a look at couple relationships through a staging, the work returns “Toxic relationship”, written and directed by Gianfranco Mejía, is presented as a playful and at the same time critical exploration of the patterns of communication and conflict in contemporary love. In addition to raising the debate about the decision to let go of relationships before the dynamic as a couple turns out to be harmful for both due to incompatibility as a couple.

Gianfranco Mejía began his artistic career in 2011, when he entered a workshop directed by Pietro Sibille, and fell in love with the art of acting. As time went by he became a little more involved in this field, recording some short films and making appearances on television. However, it was in 2013 when he came to the theater for the first time, he participated there until 2015, since that precise year he began writing and directing, tasks that he does to this day.

His new work tells the story of Adrián and Stephanie, a couple who, despite having been together for just four months, face constant challenges in their relationship. Between frequent arguments and a notable lack of harmony, the work asks if it is possible for two people with marked differences to accept each other. Through the advice of Adrián’s friends, Lucho and Paula, who offer different solutions, the narrative explores different perspectives on love and commitment, offering the audience a variety of points of view with which they can identify or question.

The romantic comedy reflects on contemporary relationships

Within the narrative of the work, the dilemma arises as to whether it is possible to accept the other as they are, especially when differences seem to overcome moments of shared happiness. Through a cast that includes Francesca Vargas, Gianfranco Mejía himself, Alexis Arteaga and Gabriela Pérez-León, “Tóxica Relation” attempts to reflect the tensions and emotional exhaustion that can arise in love relationships, all wrapped in a format romantic comedy that seeks not only to entertain, but also to offer a space for reflection on how expectations and reality often collide in the field of love.
