Oscars 2024: The Academy Awards achieve its largest television audience since 2020

The gala of the Oscar It achieved the largest television audience in the United States since 2020, with 19.5 million people who followed it live, 4% more than the previous year, according to Nielsen data cited by American media.

The figures represent good news for the world of cinema after the audience hit rock bottom in 2021, a year in which all awards competitions suffered a decrease in spectators due to the pandemic and where the Oscars only attracted 10.4 millions of viewers.

Last night’s ceremony, broadcast by ABC and presented by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, brought together 4% more viewers in front of the television than the previous year, when the Oscar gala was followed by 18.76 million people.

In this way, the 96th edition of the Oscars achieved the largest television audience since 2020, when that ceremony – held a month before the United States went into confinement due to the pandemic – attracted 23.64 million viewers.

The big winner of last night’s gala was the film ‘Oppenheimer’, by director Christopher Nolan, winning seven statuettes, including best film and best director, the first in the British filmmaker’s long career.
