In tribute to Óscar Avilés: They declare March 24 as Chalaco Creole Day

The singer-songwriter and guitarist Oscar Avileswho died in 2014, has received an important tribute, since on the day of his birth, the Provincial Council of Callao designated March 24 as Chalaco Creole Day.

This was confirmed by Council Agreement No. 019-2024 AC/MPC in its first article, published on friday in an extraordinary edition of the Official Gazette El Peruano.

The date established by the municipality of Callao takes place “in commemoration of the birth of the illustrious Chalaco musician and singer-songwriter”so it will be included in the calendar of festivities of the Constitutional Province of Callao.

On the other hand, the tribute included the creation and institutionalization of the Óscar Avilés Arcos Award as the maximum recognition of Creoleism in the First Port.

Last March 24 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Óscar Aviles, known in the art world as the First Guitar of Peru.

For this reason, the municipality of Callao, represented by its mayor Pedro Spadaro, paid another tribute to the singer-songwriter by unveiling a life-size statue in his honor.

“Today we are celebrating the 100th birthday of Óscar Avilés Arcos. There is no doubt, one of the most important chalacos that has been born and grown in this land that has given Peru shine in terms of cultural issues. “Exponent of our Creole music, the first guitar in Peru and today commemorating the date of his birth”Spadaro told RPP.

The statue was located in the Plazuela San Ramón, a place that is very close to the house where the musician lived during his adolescence.
