Drake resigns from his Grammy nominations

Rapper Drake he gave up his Grammy Award nominations for Best Rap Performance for “Way 2 Sexy” and for Best Rap Album for “Certified Lover Boy.”

On Monday, the Recording Academy of the United States removed Drake’s name from the list of candidates without giving further explanation and this Tuesday confirmed to the media that he had agreed to retreat after receiving an explicit request from Drake’s team.

Your space will not be occupied by any other artistas the voting process for the January 31 ceremony has begun.

Drake, one of the best-selling singers in America, has always been highly critical of the Grammys, those who came to question live during the 2019 gala, when it won the award for best rap song.

“I want you to know that this it is a competition based on opinion and not on facts “said the Canadian.

“It is a business that depends on a group of people who may not understand what a mixed-race boy from Canada, a Spanish girl from New York, or anyone else has to say ”, he added before his speech was interrupted.

Last year, singer The Weeknd encouraged his peers to boycott the awards and decided not to perform again after the Academy failed to award him any nominations for “After Hours,” an album that made it onto several lists of the best jobs of the year.

The same thing happened a few months ago in the Latin version of the Grammy, known as Latin Grammy, when the Colombian J Balvin, who was nominated, encouraged a boycott against the institution that decides the nominees.

Instead, other artists such as Residente supported the criteria of the awards and they considered that the singer’s anger was due to a tantrum for not achieving more recognitions.

The 64th Grammy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on January 31.

As a great favorite, Jon Batiste stands out, in a list dominated by pop stars like Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and HER, with eight nominations each, and Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo, with seven each.
