Yes, LFI MP Manon Aubry voted by mistake for the extension of the health pass in the European Parliament

Not a day goes by without the Nupes being trending on Twitter. This Friday morning, it is the turn of the MEP of France Insoumise, Manon Aubry, to make people talk about her. Several Internet users accuse him of treason. “How not to be disgusted by the duplicity of Manon Aubry, 32, MEP LFI?
She voted in favor of extending the health pass in Europe limiting the fundamental rights of Europeans, ”some write.

Some fall from above since the one who is also the president of the group of the left in the European Parliament had always expressed herself against this pass. In September 2021, she announced on the France 24 set that it was akin to a “novel tool in terms of restricting freedoms”.

And she confirmed that view no later than Thursday, on Twitter : “The #PassSanitaire is both ineffective in the face of Covid and dangerous for our freedoms. What is hiding behind all these inconsistencies? 20 minutes make the point.

FAKE OFF

This Thursday, June 23, the vote was indeed held in the European Parliament on the possible extension of the health pass. The elected LFI expressed herself on this subject by tweeting: “Far from having proven its effectiveness, I vote of course against this device in coherence with my previous votes. So far everything seems clear. But on the next line, she raises doubts: “I made a technical error when voting, corrected later. »

Manon Aubry publishes the list of votes for the day available here. Point 19 concerns the pass for Europeans, and point 21 concerns third-country nationals. In both cases, Aubry’s name is visible in the “–” part which means, as the caption at the top of the document indicates, “against”. His change of vote is therefore well recorded in the minutes, because “requests for corrections and voting intentions received before 6.30 p.m. are published the same day”, mentions the Parliament’s website.

But netizens are not convinced. The document explains how these corrections are managed and indicates (page 2 of the minutes): “The corrections and voting intentions can be found in this document under the corresponding voting points. They are mentioned for information only and in no way modify the result of the vote as announced in plenary. So what some understand is that, even if she corrected her mistake, her first vote will be the one that will count in the final result.

On this subject, the European Parliament indeed specifies to 20 minutes “This second modified vote does not change the actual result of the plenary vote. “And to add:” It is the vote FOR which is retained in the overall final result, even if it has subsequently notified its intention to vote AGAINST. “A technical error without major consequences, since the extension of the European health pass until June 2023 was in any case voted by a very large majority.
