USA: First lady tests positive for Covid, Joe Biden will wear a mask

US First Lady Jill Biden has tested positive for Covid-19. As a precaution, her husband and head of state Joe Biden will be wearing a mask, even though he took a new test on Tuesday that came back negative, the White House said.

The 80-year-old head of state, who also tested negative on Monday, has “no symptoms,” presidential spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said. The first lady contracted Covid-19, but she has only mild symptoms of the disease.

However, on Monday, Joe Biden was with his wife and “he will wear a mask when inside and around people” in accordance with current health regulations, the spokesman added. “The President will take off his mask when sufficient distance separates him from others, inside and out.”

Ms Jean-Pierre did not provide details on whether the president would wear a mask at the upcoming G20 summit in New Delhi or what the White House’s possible plans would be if Joe Biden tested positive before or during the trip. “The President will obviously be tested at regular intervals.” Jill Biden, 72, has “only mild symptoms,” according to her office. She lives at the couple’s private residence in Delaware (East). She already tested positive for Covid a year ago.

The United States, like several other countries, has seen an increase in Covid cases and hospitalizations in recent weeks.
